History

In the Spring of the year 2000, the Ladies of the Members of the Bahia Shrine Antique Cars, BSC, decided it was time to form their own club - a support group for their Nobles.  The Ladies had been assisting their Nobles for five years, especially at the annual Car Show in October, registering cars, selling tickets, baking, selling soda and doughnuts and other jobs as needed.

Now that the decision was made, the Ladies began holding informal meetings at the same time that the Nobles met, but in a different room. Ladies Nancy Gilbreath and Phyllis Dennis held a luncheon on March 18th to inform the ladies of the formation of The Kiassiques.

During the Spring, Summer and Fall of 2,000, they elected officers, opened a checking account, named the organization and prepared to start collecting dues.  The name was a combination of Classic and Antique - thus The Kiassiques.

 The Charter Officers elected were:
President - Phyllis Dennis, wife of Noble Kent
Vice President - Nancy Gilbreath, wife of Noble Larry
Secretary - Martha Long, wife of Ill. Sir DeFarest, P. P.
Treasurer - Nancy Husselman, wife of Noble Alan
Dues were set at $5.00 per year.

After much discussion, the Ladies approved a shirt design and color so that they would be easily identifiable as The Klassiques. The shirt was a simple polo shirt in teal with a white “fantasy” car, designed by Nancy Husselman, on the back of the shirt and a smaller version of the design on the front. Noble Larry Gilbreath arranged for the purchase of the shirts which will be worn with black slacks as the official uniform of The Kiassiques.

At the Car Show in October, 2000, the Antique Cars Members voted to let The Klassiques run the Bake Sale and Raffle as their own concessions and keep the funds for their treasury. That produced a profit of $483.00 for the Ladies.

By December, the dues were coming in and the Charter Members of The Kiassiques are as follows:
Christine Blankenship, lady of Noble Neil Wittenstein
Phylis Cramer, wife of Ill. Sir Bob, P.P.
Phyllis Dennis, wife of Noble Kent
Beulah Embree, wife of Ill. Sir Tom, P. P.
Nancy Gilbreath, wife of Noble Larry
Nancy Husselman, wife of Noble Alan
Louise Lively, wife of Noble Warren
Martha Long, wife of lii. Sir DeFarest, P. P.
June Miller, lady of Noble Don Mietz
Pat Resh, lady of Noble Warren
Peggy Rouse, wife of Noble Jim
Pati Roy, wife of Noble David
Jan Zorian, wife of Noble David

The first official meeting of The Klassiques was held on January 25, 2001. At that meeting, they received a certificate and a letter of thanks from ill. Sir V. Albert Janoska for their $100.00 donation to the Bahia Transportation Fund a check for $50.00 was written to First Lady Dorothy Janoska for her project, chandeliers in the Shrine Center lobby. A decision was made to have their major source of funds come from the Car Show and that their major use of these funds would be donations to the Shrine.
